Using ECS

When a family has exhausted local resources, including outpatient services and short-term placements, and, despite the parents’ best efforts, their child either continues to spiral downward or is not making significant progress, it is time to consider an out-of-home placement. Specifically, an out-of-home placement can be used to accomplish the following goals:

To provide a safe environment away from negative peers
To change family patterns of communication and interaction
To protect a child from harming himself or herself
To provide a more effective educational environment
To assess a child in a controlled, 24/7 environment
To break patterns of intractable, maladaptive behavior
To provide an alternative to court-ordered placements
To regain parental control of a child
